Line asymmetries and shifts are derived for the Caii K line in particular. On the K-line of CaII in sunspots. book is found that the majority of Caii K profiles show a blue asymmetry.

Red asymmetry may also appear, but only in some tiny regions. Some ephemeral blue asymmetry patches are found in the umbrae, which seem to Cited by: 1.

One can notice that it becomes very fine and that K 3 seems to disappear when the slit is crossing the umbra of the sunspots. The interpretation of this spectral profile makes correspond the K 1 line to absorption in the low and “colder” layers of chromosphere ( km), the emission line K 2 to a zone of average altitude, and the core, K 3, to a new absorption at a higher level ( km).

Dark sunspots are visible in the sunspot belt; the bright specks close to the solar limb are the photospheric faculae (NSO-Kitt Peak). Panel b: solar disk recorded in the CaII K line core.

Only the largest sunspots remain visible; bright chromospheric faculae stand out throughout the activity belt, also near the center of the disk. Faculae cluster in plages. In addition, bright. The spectral band for the Caii K line covers about nm, and thus does not include the continuum near the Ca K line.

To overcome this limitation, the observed line profiles are normalized using intensities at two narrow bands situated in the blue (– nm) and red.

In this paper, we study the CaII K line spectra of eight flares observed with the Solar Tower Telescope at the Nanjing University. It is seen that the red asymmetry is common to all flares, i.e., that the intensity of the red wing at K 1r is stronger than that of the blue wing at K 1b and the distance between K 1r and the line center is larger than that for K : Yin Su-ying, Fang Cheng, Gan Wei-qun.
